What does it mean when Strong's Concordance does not have a number associated with a particular word?

When looking at the word "joy" I find that there are several instances that the word "joy" occurs in the KVJ Old Testament but there is no corresponding number in the Strong's Concordance. This word was NOT in italics so I assume it to be part of the original scriptures and not added by the translators for clarification. I spoke with a pastor friend of mine that made mention it could be that the word has no distinct definition. I looked to find an official answer from Strong's but to no avail.|||This is how it is explained in my Strong's Exhaustive Concordance under the heading Instructions to the Reader. "If no number appears, the word may have been supplied by the translators to clarify the meaning, even though no specific Hebrew or Greek word was used to express it."
