Which word is more correct in Brazilian Portuguese?

For the word vegetables is it (verduras) or Vegetal? BTW some Translators can translate Portugal Portuguese that can be incorrect. Does any one who speaks this know the answer? In Brazil don't they call vegetables greenery? Whats formal and informal?|||There isn't a formal or informal way in vegetables, at least not in Portuguese...





in the plural, vegetables can be- vegetais (singular - vegetal)


verduras is only used when the vegetables are green, so we don't use it for tomatoes : )

If you are referring to vegetables used in kitchen then instead of "vegetais" we use more the word "legumes" (singular is "legume") (legumen, from leguminous plant) or "verduras" (in singular: "verdura").





Formal and informal doesn't apply here. When talking with someone, you can use a more formal vocabulary when the other person is older or not very familiar. We brazilians are very creative, but not to the point of creating an "informal version" of vegetable.
