The bible.....Why do people think that what they are reading is the word of god ?

It has been through (god knows-apols..) how many translations by a number of people giving their own take on it, by believing it all word for word you are followers not of the word of God but of a translator possibly a 1000 years after Jesus had left this earth...|||The translator is a traitor. The basis of meaning for any piece of literature (divine or profane) is the literal meaning. It is usually not the only meaning or even the most important meaning (for the majority of Christians).

Word-for-word is not the meaning that most Christians take. Even today, archeology sheds light on metaphors and similes and allusions to other writings. Some transcriptions are so garbled that they lack meaning.

Despite this the Christian scriptures have the reputation for producing humans that are closer to God with deep insight into the human condition. This gives credence (never say prove) to hold that the writers were inspired by God.

They are not translated once and the same ancient copies are not set in stone as the ones that must be translated into a modern language. The message is remarkably consistent. That they are not identical is not a concern. All the copies of Homer that we have are not consistent either, but they all tell the same story.|||You lack education. The Bible is actually one of the most comprehensively documented and carefully translated writings that possess the greatest number of copied ancient manuscripts compared to all of the most accepted comparative writings of its era. The dead sea scrolls showed us that in over 2000 years, the verses of Isaiah contained in the scrolls had not changed since the time of Christ.

People giving their "own take" are not included in the canon of scripture. Those are extra biblical commentary and they are purposely kept separate.|||1 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.

The NIV was written in the 1960's 1970's by scholars who researched all the old texts of the Bible they could find in the original Greek and Hebrew, and it is considered the most accurate English translation in the world.

All the translations of the Bible are very similar, unless chapters have been added or removed.|||Because the Bible is a collection of 60 books written by 45 different authors in 4 different languages over a period of 1500 years, and yet it is one cohesive unit, with all the different parts complementing each other, not to mention all the prophecies fulfilled thousands of years after they were written. This is great evidence of its Divine inspiration; this feat would be impossible by human efforts alone. In fact, humans, by their very nature, would be more likely to write the exact OPPOSITE of what is written in the Scriptures.|||Let me ask you this question. If God came to you and told you to give his message to all of Earth, how would you do it?

The Bible (old testament) is a collection of stories that have been handed down through hundreds of generations and finally someone put them down together in a book. If this were to be done today, it would probably be a blog. How do we know that it is the word of God? Faith.|||The manuscripts of the Old and the New Testaments are still available and can be interpreted by anyone. There are several versions of the bible, but almost total agreement in content. God is God and he has control over what went into the bible.|||This is what they were told is right and they just never questions it.

The Creed was written 325 years after Christ so that people could be controlled by the church. Then they were told to believe it or you will be killed.

Jesus studied Buddha during the time that there is no mention of him in the bible. There are over 250 quotes in the bible by Jesus that were of Buddha five hundred years prior.

Not to mention that the bible was written in different times with different events and people.|||Probably because when Islam popped up, they said that their holy book was the word of God.

Christians felt challenged by this, so they started saying "nuh uh, ours is the real word of God!"

And 1300 yrs later, people still haven't caught on to the mistake.|||There's many good reasons to trust the Bible as God's Word, see the link below for some of them. And I have many translations of the Bible, it doesn't change the meaning.

http://www.watchtower.org/e/200711/artic鈥?/a>|||40 years of study and comparison with ancient secular history and archaeology which verify its verasity, includingly amazingly detailed fulfillment of prophecy.|||I would like you to show me any human who could tell me what's going to be happening 2000 years from now with accuracy.|||Delusional.|||same reason why some think the KJV is the correct version. Who knows really?|||Faith|||instead of telling us our faith, why don't you read it yourself? not only that but read how it came to be.|||Because obviously when god speaks he says things like Ye, and thine, and goeth forth and other fancy sounding god things.
